The "Idiot Box" Revisited -- and why!

So, what's the purpose?

Oh, there are a few reasons:

There's ALWAYS something on TV now!

Actually,

  1. I grew up in front of the television set, and in recent months have become obsessed with a much smaller "set" on my desk -- a personal computer.
  2. I enjoy web page construction. (Check out some others I've created.)
  3. WebTV™ was invented, and people are buying it to investigate the Internet.
  4. WebTVians are creating web pages, too, without computers.
  5. My pets have been neglected in recent months, as I haven't spent much "sofa time" with 'em since I've immersed myself in web page construction.
  6. I met some wonderful WebTVians on the 'Net. And in real life, too!
  7. I bought a WebTV™.
  8. Now I can see sites the way they're seen by WebTVians -- which is important if you're creating for an audience.
  9. The pets are enjoying the time I'm spending with them on the sofa, while I access the 'Net with my WebTV™.
  10. And, why not make something useful, while I'm at it?

Of course, almost any personal website is an exercise in exhibitionism -- it's a huge "Here I Am!" statement. I'm probably no different, but I have been intrigued by the concept of families returning to the living room (or entertainment room!) to spend some quality time with each other. If there isn't something worth watching on the television set, most folks will watch a video. Kids are being taught to use computers at school and their parents are buying computers for the home. This tends to fragment the family group, because it's hard to have a shared experience sitting in front of a PC -- no matter HOW useful one finds the Internet.

With the advent of WebTV™, the Internet can be accessed easily and with very little expense; it's displayed on a television screen -- and many homes have larger TV screens than ever before. (Certainly they are much larger than when I "grew up" in front of one!)

It's a great method of ensure that one's kids practice "safe surfing" if you sit on the sofa and experience the 'Net right along with them!

And THAT'S why I created this web-site! Discover the wonders of the World Wide Web along with me -- at your TV.
