Don and I have known each other since we met in 1987 at the annual, combined "North-South" meeting of the two Califonia chapters of APCO. He works for the California State Office of Emergency Services. I don't know what else to tell you about Don, really, but the fact that he wore a propellor-beanie so I could pick him out of the crowd at the airport when he greeted my arriving flight is a clue to his off-duty personality. (Oh, notice the tie in this picture?)
I suppose I could add that he and my friend Joanne are "a couple" and that spending any amount of time with them is a totally wonderful experience. We share our professional experiences with each other, our personal trials and triumphs, and just generally plan to do as much as we can together whenever possible. (Joanne has been in the Public Safety Communications career field for more than 15 years, by the way.)
So, of course, Bob got added to the mix. He had "kind of" gotten to know Don and Joanne through online discussions and I vouched for them. Joanne and I dragged Bob with us to most of the same seminars, along with Don on our evening outings and made him sit at our table (in the Northern California Chapter section) during the closing banquet. On the following pages, there are other pictures of us dressed a tad bit less elegantly.... And some other folks in various situations, too.
